So last Friday, Bunny brought me out on a date to see the match between the West Tigers and our home team, the St George Dragons.
We went late because our favourite Japanese diner was really crowded and we had to wait a long time for a table. I wasn't about to go hungry just to be in time for the rugby game!
By the time I had dragged my poor Ferragamos to the Sydney Football Stadium, our members area had already filled up, and I had to sit in the nosebleed section to the side. I was happy though, I am not really fond of squishing in with a lot of people in a small area.
The game was pretty exciting, especially towards the end, but alas even though our team was leading in the beginning, they were stampeded to a defeat by the sound of the final whistle.
Watching this match just made me miss soccer so much.
True Fact: I am a HUGE Manchester United Fan! I have supported them ardently since 1995, and my ultimate favourite player whom I would gladly die for is... Roy Keane and maybe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
I met the whole team when they came to Singapore for an exhibition match in 2001, and got their autographs. I was so chuffed when Alex Ferguson appeared in front of me, I found myself babbling incoherently, I couldn't speak in a proper sentence! And that is saying a lot since I am a regular Little Miss Chatterbox! :D
I adore the soccer games of old; they seem so far removed from what the game is now. The players who weaved magic with their feet and fought hard for every ball, who got red-carded so their team could survive to fight another game... I think it's time I unearth my old jerseys and perhaps frame them to put up on my wall.
I greatly miss the Manchester United of yesteryear. Hehe but I definitely do not miss the early mornings I spent shouting myself hoarse over Champion League matches. ;)

ReplyDeletesounds like a great love
ReplyDeleteyou sound completely happy and your memories are so happy too!
In the states it is still a sport that is not quite appreciated. Even the Beckham couldn't get people interested. LOL
I used to work in an irish sports bar so soccer/football was kinda big there. But I still don't really understand the sport :(
I love how the rest of the world named this sport football while the States named it soccer! It's quite alright to me. Both sports are fun to play and watch ;)
ReplyDeleteThis looks like so much fun! xo
ReplyDeleteWow it looks magical and so exciting! I must also thank you for your sweet comments -- your's always stand out and brighten my day. ♥

ReplyDeleteFirst off, your nail varnish is pretty! I am mesmerized by all that shimmery glitter! :)
ReplyDeleteOn to soccer/football. I'll confess, I'm not much of a fan, but only because I really don't watch sports at all. And I am too embarrassed to cheer. Like, seriously. Although, I really LOVED watching my uni's hockey matches! Those are BRUTAL!

Such a memorable experience with Bunny! I wish my bf and I can also bond in here someday. I'm not much of a sports fanatic, but I think I'd still be in awe if I'm in place like this.
ReplyDeletewhat fun going to a football game! I love going to baseball games with the hubby. we used to do that a lot before we had kids. and love that you wore your ferragamos to the stadium. i always think about looking stylish then end up in a jersey, jeans and tennis shoes :)

Very cool photos, I love the overexposure-effect with the bright stadion lights! :)
ReplyDeleteCool photos! I've never been to a soccer game, a rugby game or any game at all! :P I'm just not a sports fan :P I don't like loud stadiums packed with people, I find it stuffy. But I would still like to experience attending a game if I had the chance. Lots of people tell me it's fun :P
ReplyDeleteI'm not interested in football but if I support Man U too, just because my little cousin brother is a BIG fan :P I have a cap with some of Man U's autographs on it, so I guess I'm a lucky gal :) I better treasure that cap :)

ReplyDeleteLooks like you had a really fun date with Bunny. I was giggling when you said you weren't about to go hungry for a rugby game, haha I wouldn't too. And it's so cool you were able to meet the entire Manchester team when you were still in SG, moments like that are unforgettable.

ah sports, that is my hubby's department!!
ReplyDeleteI keep thinking Tony the Tiger in my head when I saw that mascot. :) Didn't think you were into soccer. I tried (very hard) to like and understand the game before but I ultimately gave up. haha. In the PI, a lot of people are starting to appreciate it but I think it's mostly because of the good-looking players and not because of passion for the sport.lol At least it's getting attention though. :)
ReplyDeletegreat photos.
